The Art of Zouaq

Zouaq is the name for a traditional Moroccan technique of painting on wood.This method was taught by Natasha Mann at The Prince’s School of Traditional Art.

The images below detail some of the stages that are required to produce a piece and further images will be added as the work is completed.

Traditionally Zouaq is an egg tempera technique painted onto cedar wood. It is found most prolifically in Fez and uses both geometric and Islmi (Arabesque) designs.
